It’s not just about what’s in the sandwich, but what the sandwich is in!
Sustainability has been a hot topic for a while now and certainly is a term more widely used than it was, say ten years ago, as the population becomes more educated and aware of how we can minimise our impact on the planet. Here at QAR Supplies we do our bit for our environment by looking at all alternatives to traditional landfill materials, without compromising on the performance of our products. Our newly added Kraft Natureflex Window Bloomer Bags are a shining example of this - eco friendly, prime presentation and premium quality.
Commercially compostable, with a lining and window made from wood pulp sourced from responsibly managed forests, the bags are made from 100% recycled paper.
According to the journal ‘Nature Sustainability’, plastic from takeaway food and drink packaging makes up 75% of all litter that ends up in the ocean. There is a battle on our hands, and a responsibility, to turn this around, and products like these Kraft bags are tools we can all use to help.
The packaging is attractive, with the window clearly showing what is on offer, be it a well filled bloomer, a sweet treat or your signature tea or coffee.
The material is all shelf stable and will not break down unless in a compost environment. It certainly does make sense to pack foods in materials that can be recycled together with foods!
Being more sustainable as a brand starts with small steps, like packaging, which can be a simple start but with a loud, clear message. Increasingly, consumers have more choice of where to shop and, as sustainability is an increasingly prevalent consideration, the environmentally friendly is going to win over the pollutant alternative any day.
Natureflex states that the main focus for their raw materials is: biodiversity, minimal impact on ecosystems, reduction of chemical usage, responsible water usage, rights of workers and indigenous populations, and proper planning for native forestry and plantations. Natureflex films do not contain GMO inputs.
All of the above are principles we support here at QAR and aim to help normalise throughout the catering industry.
